Lyrics

(Folk song)

1. Roxie Anne’s a-fooling me,
I’ll fool her after awhile,
She’s been a long time fooling, fooling,
She’s been a long time fooling me.

2. Never mind Roxie Anne,
Never mind awhile
She’s been a long time fooling, fooling,
She’s been a long time fooling me.
*”Fooling” is refusal to swing in a Virginia Reel type dance. (source)

Line Dance / Play-Party

Formation: Students stand in two lines across from their partners. The Head Couple (HC) is at one end of the lines.

Verse 1

  • Ms. 1-4 = HC joins crossed hands and gallops sideways between the lines from one end to the other while other students clap on the beat.
  • Ms. 5-8 = HC gallops back to where they started.

Verse 2

  • Ms. 1-4 = HC peels off (The head of the right line turns right and walks outside the line down to the bottom of the line with the rest of the line following. The head of the left line turns left with students in the line following and meets the partner at the bottom of the line.)
  • Ms. 5-8 = HC join hands and forms arch as the students grab hands with partners and go under arch. The original HC stays at the bottom of the lines and game continues with new HC.

The HC can “fool” others by doing unexpected movements. One way could be to have the HC improvise movements in the first 8 measures.
