Lyrics - Maranao

(Maranao folk song from the Philippines)

Pok-pok Alimpako,
malalagoy si Dali
Daon si Boro-Boro,
Kobukar ka sa isa
boka ka sa satiman
(repeat)

Ibayaw tasulan,
Ibaba subitoon
Ibayaw tasulan,
Ibaba subitoon
(source)

English Translation - Pound your hands

Pound your hands,
Dali will run,
Boro-boro is not around,
Open that hand under the other,
(repeat)

Unknown translation for the last 4 lines.

Circle Game

Formation: Students make a circle and put their fists on top of one another, alternating hands. (This is said to represent a stairway to the moon and stars.)

As the song is sung, the top fist pulses up and down to the beat. One by one, each lower fist is released, palms up, starting with the bottom fist.

When the song is repeated, students lift up their hands in a jerky way and ruffle each other’s hair.
