  • He studied music against his parents’ wishes
  • He studied with Richard Wagner and later tutored Wagner’s son
  • After studying music, he went on to travel around Europe teaching music and working as a music critic for a newspaper
  • Most known for his opera, Hansel and Gretel
  • Richard Strauss conducted the premiere of Hansel and Gretel, which was an immediate success
  • In 1923, Hansel and Gretel became the first opera to ever be broadcast on radio
  • “Engelbert Humperdinck” is also the stage name of Gerry Dorsey. a British pop star (1936 – 1967).
