Lyrics

(Hebrew folk song)

Hanukkah, Hanukkah, festival of lights,
Candles glow in a row, seven days eight nights.
Hanukkah, Hanukkah, make your dreidel spin,
Round and round, round and round, everyone join in!

Hanukkah, Hanukkah, what a merry time,
Cakes to eat, what a treat, see the faces shine.
Hanukkah, Hanukkah, sing and dance this way.
Round and round, round and round, happy holiday!

  1. I taught this song today to 3 kindergarten classes. IT WAS A ROUSING SUCCESS!! They not only enjoyed the song, but enjoyed using the rhythm sticks and xylophones as well. (I used xylophones, removing all but 5 bars.)

I look forward to teaching this to my other 4 classes 🙂 THANK YOU!!

I learned this song as a first grader in 1966. I have never been able to find the full lyrics for it until now! Thanks for posting them!

  3. This song sounds like it was written by someone who never celebrated Hanukkah. The holiday last for eight nights AND eight days. And we don’t traditionally eat cakes. We eat latkes and sufganiyot (fried jelly Israeli donuts). Please don’t use this as the token “Jewish” song in your holiday concert. There are many many other (and better) songs.

    1. Thank you for pointing out that this song is flat out wrong. Chanukah is celebrated for EIGHT DAYS AND EIGHT NIGHTS. This song should be removed from books and shelves everywhere.
