Lyrics

1. To do to others as I would that they should do to me,
Will make me honest, kind and good, As children* ought to be.
Will make me honest, kind and good, As children ought to be.

2. We never should behave amiss, nor need be doubtful long.
As we may always tell by this, If things are right or wrong.
As we may always tell by this, If things are right or wrong.

Consider changing the lyric to “people.”

Do people still mention the “Golden Rule” in school? I once had an assistant principal who would mention it to the students, but I found very few children know what the Golden Rule is. This simple song explains it well. I think that changing the lyric from “children” to “people” helps kids know that all of us should follow this rule, not just children. 🙂
