Lyrics
(Melody by Peter Christian Lutkin, Lyrics by George Reiter Brill)
A chickadee swung on a grapevine that hung
From the limb of a buttonball tree
To his mate in the crest he made this request,
“Chickadee, chickadee, chickadee.”
Whatever this meant, yet the message he sent
Seemed to be quite important, for she,
With a toss of her head looked down and then said,
“Chickadee, chickadee, chickadee.”
Then both of them flew for a meter or two
In a style quite as pert as you please
To a mossy-lined nest where joy was expressed
By their five baby-by chickadee.
