Lyrics
(English folk tune, Lyrics by Homer H. Harbor, 1921)
1. The ships sail the ocean, the ocean, the ocean,
Sail eastward and westward and north and south away.
Great smoky steamers and tugboats with barges
Sail o’er the ocean by night and by day.
From England, from Ireland, from Denmark, from Norway,
Ships sail from Boston to lands overseas.
2. With grain ships and fruit ships are coal ships and oil ships,
And white-winged schooners that fly before the breeze.
Some carry sugar and some carry spices,
Some carry soldiers to fight overseas
To England, to Ireland, to Denmark, to Norway,
Ships sail from Boston to lands overseas.
