Subo Subo

1. Me voy a los cerros altos,
A llorar a solas, me voy.

A ver si se apuna el dolor,
Subo, subo

2. La quena muy triste tocó
Y me habla llorando de vos.

3. Los ranchos quedaron atrás,
Las nubes muy cerca están ya.

Translation – I go up, I go up

1. I’m going to the high mountains,
To cry alone, I go.

Let’s see if the pain comes,
I go up, I go up

2. I play the Andean flute sadly
And it cries of you.

3. The farms/ranches stayed back
Now the clouds are very close.

  1. I believe a translation of the chorus would be “I go up to see whether my pain/sorrow will succumb to altitude sickness”, i.e. the singer is trying to make his or her pain go away by going up into the hills to weep. (“My pain” because I believe it’s like “Me duele la cabeza”, “My [not ‘the’] head hurts”.)
