Lyrics
(Canadian folk song)
The wind, the wind, the wind blows high,
blowing [name] through the sky.
She is handsome, she is pretty,
she’s the queen of the highland city.
She goes courting, one two three.
Won’t you tell us who is she?

I always forget to post but want you to know I love your blog Beth! You are such an excellent children’s repertoire/ethnofolk/music education resource. Thank you.
Kathy, thank you so much for the compliment!
We used to use a version of this as a skipping song in a village school in NE Essex in the 1950’s.
The wind, the wind, the wind blows high
The raindrops scattering down the sky.
She is handsome, she is pretty,
She is the girl from the golden city.
She goes outwith a One Two Three –
Pray tell me, who is she?
(Boy’s name) says he loves her,
All the boys go fighting for her,
Takes her down to the lily-white water,
All for the sake of Mrs (surname)’s daughter.
I have no idea where it came from but it was very catchy, and I’ve never forgotten it.
