Summative vs. Formative Assessments: Basically, formative assessments are like practice. Formative assessments are actually learning tools, and it encourages students to take more responsibility for their own learning.
I created some “Check Yourself” activities with the older grades. We spend the last 5-10 minutes of some of the lessons (especially before a written assessment), and I put the questions up on a PowerPoint. The students wrote down what they knew, and then we would check their answers. They are allowed to help each other.
