Lyrics
(Italian folk tune, Lyrics by John Erwin)
1. Over the ocean Columbus came,
With three little ships a-sailing;
Away from a town on the coast of Spain,
With courage and hope unfailing.
To seek a distant golden shore
He dared the seas unknown before;
And ever he piloted westward
Three little ships a-sailing.
2. Sing in his honor a song today,
The admiral bold and daring,
Who, day after day with no sight of land,
Through perilous seas came faring.
This mighty western land he found,
And proved to men the world is round.
All honor to gallant Columbus,
Admiral bold and daring.

1 thought on “Columbus Day”
I am 97 and enjoying finding the songs I sang in elementary school in the 1930s and 40s. I hear them today as I remember them thanks to your providing tunes and lyrics. Tonight I am immersed in From the Boughs o’erhead the leaves come floating down…and Over the ocean Columbus came…
What a way to sleep happily! Thank you!
