My school has installed the Sibelius music writing program on a few computers that I have in my room. I let the 4th and 5th grade students use it a couple of times per year. I don’t feel like I have enough time to devote to letting them on the computers more than that, but I want them to know the technology is available and the basics of how to use it.
I use these handouts to help them find the important keys. (You may not be able to use the exact handouts, since your version of Sibelius might be newer… but they give you an idea of what you can do with the kids.) They are told to work in partners, with one partner working with the mouse and the other partner being the “boss” reading the sheet and directing the person sitting at the computer.

The 5th graders notate Scotland’s Burning (the first 3 phrases).
