Each lesson is 30 minutes long.
Lesson 19
- Welcome Song
- Muffin Man – until everyone has a turn (more songs with rhythm activities)
- Going Over the Sea – sing with motions
- Heart patterns on the board (ta and rest)
- I say pattern, student go to the board to rearrange the hearts
- John the Rabbit – review the song from the last lesson
- Students practice patsching their knees on “oh yes”
- Choose students to play on xylophones on the “oh yes” pattern on octave E’s
- Sing Baa Baa Black Sheep – show visuals
- Practice rhythm pattern: Baa baa baa (rest) as a “Section B” after singing the song
- Add guiros on the rhythm pattern. Perform and trade instruments until everyone has a turn
- If time, Naughty Kitty Cat – make sure everyone has had a turn
Lesson 20
- Welcome Song
- Dictation practice on board.
- Stick dictation
- Engine, Engine – Show PowerPoint – practice rhythm patterns with clapping, then add drums
Lesson 21
- Welcome Song
- Review Engine Engine.
- Add so-mi melody, demonstrate up and down
- Practice hand drum part (“swish”) on beat
- Practice xyl part on beat
- 3 stations: xyl, hand drum (2 per riser on blue1, yell, blue2), rest of students on blue tape for “train station.”
- Sing, then say
- Put it down, move on over,
- Pick it up, do it again!
- Xyl 8 person go to hand drum 1, hand drum 6 move to train station (students make train), train leader goes to xyl 1
- Dictation practice on board.
