Each lesson is 30 minutes long.
Lesson 8 – Rhythm / Patriotic
- Star Spangled Banner – sing (more songs about America)
- Hole in the Middle of the Sea (more silly songs)
- Sing
- Hole handout – Students figure out how to remember the differences between all notes & rests.
- Review rhythms on back of handout. Add instruments. Switch until 5 mins left.

Lesson 9 – Rhythm / Patriotic
- Star Spangled Banner – sing
- Put black and white note & rest cards on board
- Put into 2 groups: rests and notes, then in order from long to short (whole on top, sixteenth on bottom)
- Student rhythm flashcards
- Students in pairs to quiz each other.
- Hole handouts again, add instruments

Lesson 10 – Rhythm / Patriotic

- Tell them the story of the Star Spangled Banner.
Lesson 11 – Rhythm / Patriotic

- See Check Yourself 2 – last slide – students perform all 4 rhythms from top to bottom.

Lesson 12 – Rhythm / Patriotic
- Star Spangled Banner – sing
- Star Spangled Banner Listening – students fill out form while listening to different versions of the national anthem.
- After students turn in papers, we review answers.
Lesson 13 – Rhythm / Patriotic
- Star Spangled Banner – sing
- Star Spangled Banner – PowerPoint of review of facts of the story and meaning of lyrics
- Rhythm flashcards w/person next to them on risers
- Explain writing rhythms assignment.
- Work with partner, each have own paper, write same rhythms as partner
- Decide what your lyrics will be
- Write rhythms to match words
- Practice
